If it does have covalent bonds, does it have only single bonds, or does it have double or triple bonds.

    draw the electron dot structure of SiO2
    Silicon has 4 valence electrons and Oxygen has 6.
    Put the atom with the lowest # of valence electrons in the middle (in this case Si)
    O Si O
    Then start by making a single bond between each of the atoms then progress onto the double bonds if necessary until u have 8 electrons around each of the atoms
    O = Si = O you should have 4 electrons (2 lone pairs for each of the oxygen atoms and none for the silicon
    so there are 2 double bonds between Si and O (see above)
